Ok, so Barn owls don't actually hoot...they do more of a mix of screeching and chirping sounds. But they are still enjoyable to watch! Over the past couple of years, we have followed these little charmers daily. The tree the owls are nesting in is in Orange County, California. At a place called Starr Ranch. Every December, we tune in to see the owls begin their mating rituals, and hopefully lay eggs. We have seen eggs being laid, then hatched, then mothered and nurtured til fledging. We have witnessed life and death, for some of those owlets, and the numerous rodents consumed by Mom and Dad! This year's owl mama has laid 7 eggs! Daddy Owl is quite attentive, and amorous, so it isn't much wonder, lol :P
We are all looking forward to "meeting" the new ones and watching them grow up to leave the nest. One of these parent owls is actually believed to be a hatchling from last year!
We just can't get enough of those moon-faced cuties!
