Canada Day 2011

Last year's Canada Day was pretty awesome, we got to spend it with some of our favorite people! Lots of fun memories were made, that's for sure. Well, this year we were lucky again. We got to spend it with some super people. This year we were invited to go out to Sandy Beach with the Ford's. Cailyn has become best friends with Emily, and Logan thinks the world of Josh. Darryl and I are so happy to be getting to know their parents Colleen and Paul as well! Paul is actually the cousin of someone we know back in Greenwood, so we kind of already knew about them. Cailyn and Logan met Emily and Josh at Vacation Bible School when we first moved here, then Emily and Cailyn ended up in the same class at school. Since then, we have gotten together on several occasions.
Darryl didn't want to camp, and it turns out all the sites were full, so we couldn't tent. But we spent the whole day and evening with them on Friday and Saturday, then drove home after the sun went down. We started Canada Day morning by going to see the parade and festivities in a little place called Goodsoil. It is just outside the Meadow Lakes Provincial Park in Saskatchewan. It was quaint, a small town celebration. But very nice all the same. Afterwards, we spent the afternoon at the beach. The kids had a blast, burying each other in the sand and playing in the water. It is such a beautiful little spot, and not crowded at all. I was amazed at the size and number of dragonflies zooming around the beach! They were almost intimidating until I got used to them. On a good note, there weren't many mosquitoes :P

After supper, yummy chili cooked by Colleen, we went for a walk back to the beach. We stopped for ice cream along the way and had lots of laughs. The kids played in the sand for a while, until it was time to go back to the site to roast marshmallows. We got to enjoy a beautiful sunset as well.
Saturday, we headed back to the campground to meet up with them once again. We spent most of the afternoon at the beach again. Then we drove to Cold River which was about a half hour drive away. Cold River meets Cold Lake, but on the Saskatchewan side. The kids (and adults) enjoyed watching the huge lake trout swimming under the bridge and the beautiful scenery. Horse flies were huge too...ick!

We returned back to the campsite for a wiener roast. Then another ice cream run and trip to the beach. Cailyn and Logan had changed out of their swimsuits, but they couldn't resist the water, which had warmed up since the afternoon. So they went in, clothes and all. The kids had a big water fight and enjoyed each other's company a lot. They dripped all the way back to the campsite before they could change, but they weren't bothered in the least. We finished off the evening with more s'mores and more laughs. It was a great time and I'm already looking forward to doing it again :D
