Summer School

This past week, the kids tried something new. Logan has been really missing Aikido since we left Greenwood and we were hoping to find something similar for him here. He didn't want to sign up for karate or taekwando though. I think he was a bit nervous that it would be too rough. No amount of encouragement could change his mind, so we just let it go after asking him a few times. Well, things changed once they learned that their good friends Emily and Josh do it! Actually, TKD is a whole family thing in that household. They all practice it, and teach it/assist. Paul decided to run a summer school this year, so it was the perfect opportunity for the kids to test drive it. If they like it, they can continue on in the fall, and if not, we haven't wasted a lot of money. It is being held at a local beach, which is fun. If it is wet, they get wet and dirty, lol. The kids LOVED their first class. They did some intense warm-up exercises, and Logan got to brush up on some of the Japanese he learned with Sensei Steve ;) A large portion of the class was spent practicing their kicks as well, good way to reel in the newbies! Cailyn and Logan were hooked from the start.

Cailyn loved being able to show off some of her flexibility to her best friend Emily. Dance classes will help in that area I guess. They proudly wore their summer school shirts that evening, excited to be doing something new and fun. I enjoyed seeing them participate too, especially knowing that Logan will once again have something he can take pride in. We finished off the evening with ice cream from the beach canteen. Don't be fooled by Logan's frown though, he loved the class. He just didn't like having to put down the cone for a second while I snapped the picture!
