So in between listening to some great country music, we made time to see it. We knew the stories behind it. The native americans used to run the buffalo off the cliffs there, and there is a legend about a young warrior getting crushed by the bodies of the falling animals. Horrible for the buffalo but quite clever on the part of the people! The film re-enactment was a bit disturbing, brutally realistic, at least a couple of us closed our eyes during the killing scenes. We went outside to see the actual cliffs, walking along the same paths that would have been travelled on for hundreds of years by the first nations. With the exception of all the cougar warning signs, the land felt virtually untouched. The landscape is unlike anything I've ever seen. Vast, sweeping plains. Sweetgrass and winding rivers. Beautiful but lonely....
If you listened closely, you could almost hear the thunder of the buffalo, and the drumming and whooping of the braves....incredible!
